The soul of sacred music

The Great Gregorian Offertories

The Great Gregorian Offertories

The roots of sacred singing

Les Chantres du Thoronet,

Damien Poisblaud

“CD of the month” Radio Notre-Dame, September-October 2010

“Firm favorite” La Procure

The Great Offertories presented in this recording are some of the oldest and least well-known masterpieces of Gregorian chant, constituting a repertoire that is unique for the vividness of its colours, surprising contrasts and great freedom of expression. Like stained-glass windows glowing with light, they depict sacred scenes with extraordinary lyricism, which has nothing to do with the conventional idea of this music from the Early Middle Ages.

3 - Sanctificavit Moyses 19'25

    • “Les Chantres du Thoronet with Damien Poisblaud deliver a great lesson of musical genuineness, leading the way to Beauty. To be recommended.” Claude Ollivier, Radio Notre-Dame.

    • “In the continuity of Marcel Pérès’ update of a manly, carnal Gregorian, connecting to the eastern origins of sacred singing, this disc is a culmination. A fulfillness, an astonishing sound, like a matrix of music… and heaven.” Dominique Fournier, La Procure, 4 Octobre 2010, Firm favorite.
